Custom Design and Engineering
Every facility faces unique environmental, spatial, and compliance challenges. Our in-house engineering team works directly with clients to produce project-specific layouts that combine safety, access efficiency, and long-term durability.
Customizable Building Attributes Include:
- Custom Size and Layout: With fully customizable dimensions and fully engineered footprints to meet any unique on-site space constraints US Hazmat Delivers.
- Containment Systems: Integrated secondary spill containment sumps per EPA 40 CFR 264.17
- Construction Ratings: Non–fire-rated, 2-hour, or 4-hour fire-rated walls for flammable and combustible material segregation.
- Climate and Process Control: HVAC, humidity control, and explosion-proof ventilation for controlled chemical environments.
- Access & Workflow Design: Multi-door, roll-up, and forklift entry options to align with material flow and processing zones.
- Automation & Monitoring: Integration for leak detection, gas sensors, remote alarms, and factory automation data systems.
Our buildings are structurally engineered and certified to meet NFPA 30, OSHA 29 CFR 1910, and IBC/IFC code requirements. From detailed submittal drawings to site-specific anchoring systems, we provide the complete engineering package to ensure safe and compliant installation.
Why are these codes relevant to your storage compliance needs?
- NFPA 30 – Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code
National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). NFPA 30: Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code. Quincy, MA: National Fire Protection Association, current edition.
“NFPA 30 provides the fundamental safeguards for the storage, handling, and use of flammable and combustible liquids.” - OSHA 29 CFR 1910 – Occupational Safety and Health Standards
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). 29 CFR Part 1910 – Occupational Safety and Health Standards. U.S. Department of Labor, Washington, D.C. - Chemical Storage: 29 CFR 1910.106 – Flammable Liquids
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). 29 CFR 1910.106 – Flammable Liquids. U.S. Department of Labor. - IBC / IFC – International Building and Fire Codes
International Code Council (ICC). International Building Code (IBC) and International Fire Code (IFC). Washington, D.C.: International Code Council, latest edition.
The IBC and IFC establish minimum regulations for building systems and fire prevention, including structural integrity, fire separation, egress, and hazardous material control areas.
Duplex Modular Storage Systems
When larger capacity or workflow segmentation is required, our Duplex Modular Chemical Storage Buildings provide a scalable solution. Each duplex system combines two independently rated storage modules into one connected unit — allowing simultaneous segregation and access for multiple chemical types or process lines.
Advantages of Duplex Modular Systems:
- Large-span interior storage facilities with fully configurable floorplans and systems integration.
- Fully open spaces for large inventory volumes to multi-unit compartmentalized partitioned rooms and accessible storage areas.
- Fire-rated storage with independent secondary spill containment sump
- Shared mechanical and electrical integration for efficient installation and long-term maintenance
- Central service corridor or partition for maintenance access
- Unlimited scalability to multi-unit configurations for large-scale operations
- Rapid deployment, installation, and in-the-field connections to minimize impact to ongoing facility operation and workflow process disruption
US Hazmat Storage’s custom Duplex Modular Chemical Storage Systems are ideal for manufacturing, utilities, aerospace, and water treatment facilities where multiple classes of hazardous materials and large inventory management requirements that must be isolated within a single operational area.
On-Site Custom Construction and Build-Over Applications
For facilities with limited space, existing foundations, or specialized containment requirements, on-site custom builds offer a fully engineered alternative to modular deployment. These installations can be constructed over existing slabs, sumps, or containment vaults to minimize infrastructure modification while delivering complete compliance and operational reliability.
Build-Over and Field Construction Options Include:
- Integration with existing facilities and equipment, permanent containment systems, or workflow design
- Walk-in enclosures for chemical processing or dispensing operations
- Reinforced floor structures for heavy load-bearing requirements for inventory and equipment
- Custom roof and ventilation systems for outdoor or enclosed-site integration
- Weatherproof coatings and corrosion-resistant linings for harsh hazard environments
- Explosion-proof design for high-risk, combustible, and volatile virgin materials
All on-site constructions are PE-stamped and field-inspected, ensuring compliance from foundation through final commissioning.
Fire-Rated and Non-Fire-Rated Chemical Storage
Our fire-rated designs are engineered for flammable and combustible liquid segregation per NFPA 30 and OSHA 1910.106.
Fire-Rating Options:
- Non-Fire-Rated – Ideal for non-flammable chemical containment or general hazardous waste storage.
- 2-Hour Fire-Rated – Provides a safe barrier for limited-quantity flammable material storage near occupied structures.
- 4-Hour Fire-Rated – Maximum fire separation for high-risk operations, manufacturing zones, and reactive material handling.
Each fire-rated building incorporates UL-listed component design and assemblies, fire dampers, and temperature-reactive controls, manual or remote-activated exhaust systems for rapid ventilation and compliance air volume turnover prior to entry by personnel, and audible, visual, and optional remote alert system integration for emergency conditions.
Integration for Chemical Processing and Workflow
Our custom chemical storage buildings can serve as more than containment units — they can be fully integrated into active EP process environments. Many of our clients utilize these enclosures as mixing rooms, paint preparation areas, or chemical dispensing stations, complete with internal workstations, lighting, shelving, and spill control.
Integrated Workflow Options:
- Material transfer systems, lifts, specialty instruments and equipment
- Dispensing and mixing areas with explosion-proof electrical components
- Solvent recycling and drum filling operations
- Industrial ventilation and vapor mitigation systems
- Custom shelving, racking, and workbench design for efficient use of space
- Custom conduits, electrical, HVAC, and ventilation systems integration for client-specific operation
Compliance and Certification
All US Hazmat Storage custom-engineered chemical storage buildings meet or exceed compliance needs for full local, state, and federal compliance operation:
- OSHA 29 CFR 1910.106 – Flammable and Combustible Liquids
- NFPA 30 – Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code
- EPA 40 CFR 264.175 – Containment Requirements
- SPCC (Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure)
- IBC and IFC code compliance for site installations
All buildings are manufactured, tested, and certified in the USA, and backed by full engineering documentation, submittal drawings, and PE certification.
